Units

The focus area is represented by the Bayreuth Centre for Ecology & Environmental Research (BayCEER). This centre brings together the scientific expertise of around two dozen working groups in biology and the earth sciences and ensures that the available infrastructure can be shared. It also establishes interfaces for interdisciplinary exchange both within the focus area and in the greater scientific community by way of workshops and conferences (Contact us).

The Botanical Garden is actively involved in teaching and research and attracts visitors from all over the surrounding region.  With facilities that are unique in Germany, the Botanical Garden hosts a wide variety of different types of vegetation and provides a setting to explore ecological relationships (Contact us).

Key LaboratoryDescription
Isotope Biogeochemistry

One area of research at the Bayreuth Centre for Ecology & Environmental Research (BayCEER) is isotope biogeochemistry. In addition to its own research on stable isotopes, the focus area also helps working groups to plan and conduct experiments with stable isotopes and to further develop analytical procedures.

Experimental biogeochemistry

the Key Lab Experimental Biogeochemistry is being developed in 2017 in conjunction with Dr. Martin Obst’s Heisenberg Professorship. Research at the lab focuses on identification, localization, and quantification of biogeochemical processes at the micro-scale. The lab will also soon be able to benefit from the various possibilities opened up by high-resolution analytical microscopy.

DNA Analytics & EcoinformaticsThe central laboratory DNA Analytics & Ecoinformatics provides conceptual and technical support for the focus areas Ecology & the Environmental Sciences and Molecular Biosciences in both teaching and research. A broad spectrum of modern molecular-genetic methods of analysis are employed.
Analytical ChemistryAnalytical Chemistry at the Bayreuth Centre for Ecology & Environmental Research (BayCEER) focuses on carrying out quantitative chemical analyses according to validated procedures, developing customized processes, and advising with regard to the selection and application of suitable methods.
   Collection                                                         Description
Rossmann Paleontological CollectionThe Rossmann Paleontological Collection is located on University of Bayreuth's campus, near the Botanical Garden. It contains numerous plant fossils spanning every period in the Earth's history and specializes in mesozoic petrified wood and plant imprints found in Upper Franconia. The collection has been widely praised for its scholarship and the quality of its specimens. It was established by Professor Günther Rossmann, former director of the Botanical Garden.
The HerbariumThe University of Bayreuth's Herbarium is part of the Botanical Garden
